Addressing the Human Side of Wealth to Meet the Planning Needs of UHNW Families
About the Program
In this session, Jim Coutre will explore how estate planning professionals can evolve their practices to better serve ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) families by addressing both the human and technical dimensions of planning. Drawing on two decades of experience working closely with multigenerational families and inheritors, Jim will examine how families’ attitudes toward wealth are shifting—and how traditional estate planning approaches often lag behind.
Attendees will gain insight into the emotional and relational impact of planning decisions, why some beneficiaries experience inheritance as a burden rather than a gift, and how to reframe planning strategies to enhance family health, communication, and cohesion. The program will also highlight practical tools and advisor behaviors that foster clarity, engagement, and alignment around legacy goals—positioning planners to support not just efficient wealth transfer, but thriving family systems.
